Abby Connect vs AnswerConnect: Pricing, People and AI Compared (2026)

White text on a blue gradient background reads Abby CONNECT, with a curved line under CONNECT suggesting a smile or connection, perfectly reflecting what makes about Abby Connect unique.

AnswerConnect is a 24/7 answering service that has made “people, not bots” its promise; Abby Connect answers with human receptionists, an AI Receptionist, or both on one plan. That single difference shapes almost everything else in this comparison: price per minute, how minutes are counted, where the receptionists work and what happens after hours. We sell one of the two, so this is an informed comparison; AnswerConnect’s prices come from the plans it publishes on answerconnect.com, and Abby’s from abby.com/pricing, both as read on September 2, 2026.

Pricing: AnswerConnect’s Minutes Are Cheaper, Abby’s Go Further

On the headline numbers AnswerConnect wins per human minute: $1.32 to $1.75 against Abby’s $2.76 to $3.30. Three things narrow that gap in practice.

  • Rounding and after-call work. AnswerConnect bills the total time to handle a call, including the receptionist’s work after the caller hangs up, rounded up to the next full minute. A 2-minute-10-second call costs three minutes. Abby counts ring, talk and transfer time, rounds the total up to the next 30 seconds (the same call bills as two and a half minutes), and does not bill hold time or after-call work.
  • The AI Receptionist. A minute of Abby’s AI Receptionist uses half an Abby Minute, so AI-handled calls cost $1.38 to $1.65 a minute, in the same range as AnswerConnect’s human minutes, with a human receptionist still available on the same plan for the calls that need one. AnswerConnect offers no AI option at any price.
  • Entry price and setup. AnswerConnect’s smallest published plan is $350 plus a $49.99 setup fee for 200 minutes; a business that needs 50 to 100 minutes pays for minutes it will not use. Abby starts at $165 for 50 Abby Minutes with no setup fee and a free trial.

On human minutes alone, AnswerConnect’s Growth plan ($395 for 300 minutes, no setup fee) is the lower published price once you need more than about 100 human-answered minutes a month. Up to that volume, or once the AI Receptionist takes a real share of the calls at $1.38 to $1.65 a minute, Abby’s plans usually cost less for the same coverage, with a person still on the line for the calls that need one. Plans are $165 a month for 50 Abby Minutes (Starter), $329 for 100 (Essential), $599 for 200 (Professional) and $1,380 for 500 (Growth), with Enterprise plans on request. Every plan is month-to-month with a free trial and no setup fee, 24/7 coverage carries no after-hours or weekend upcharge, and bilingual English and Spanish answering is included for both human and AI.

People: In-House Team vs Home-Based Receptionists

Both companies answer with real people 24/7. AnswerConnect’s receptionists work from “distraction-free home environments”, in its words, and it says it answers 99 percent of calls within one to four rings. Every Abby receptionist works in the office in Las Vegas, none from home; every client gets a dedicated team that learns the account and a Client Success Manager who tunes call handling and reviews results. Abby has done this for more than 20 years for over 6,200 businesses. The office is a deliberate choice: one room means live supervision and coaching, consistent call quality and equipment, client information handled on office systems rather than home networks, and a team that trains together on your account.

AI: A Policy Difference, Not a Feature Gap

AnswerConnect has chosen not to offer AI answering and says so on its home page: “people prefer people, not AI”. If you want a vendor with no AI capability at all, that is the difference to weigh. Abby’s view is that the choice belongs to you, call by call, and an Abby plan can be all human if that is what you want. Abby is one subscription used three ways: just human receptionists, just the AI Receptionist, or a mix you can change at any time. Usage is measured in Abby Minutes: a minute with a human receptionist uses one Abby Minute, a minute with the AI Receptionist uses half, so AI-handled calls make the same plan go twice as far. Many Abby clients keep a human receptionist on new-client and patient calls and let the AI Receptionist answer after hours, take messages and book appointments, with a handoff to a person whenever the conversation needs one.

Features Both Include, and Where They Differ

Both include 24/7 answering, bilingual support, message taking, appointment scheduling, lead capture and intake, a mobile app, a client portal and CRM integrations. AnswerConnect adds website live chat on its Growth and Standard plans and plants a tree for every customer every month. Abby adds the AI Receptionist, call summaries, transcripts and sentiment in the AbbyGO app, a dedicated team and Client Success Manager, and a free trial on every plan.

Abby fits you if
  • You want human receptionists and an AI Receptionist on one plan, with AI minutes at half rate and the mix under your control.
  • You need up to about 100 human minutes a month, or your calls are short and 30-second rounding beats full-minute rounding.
  • You want a dedicated team that works in the office (not from home), a Client Success Manager, 1,000+ integrations, no setup fee and a free trial before you pay.

AnswerConnect’s own distinctions are a lower published price per human minute at volume, website chat included on its two larger plans, and a no-AI policy. If none of those decides it for you, the plan structure above does.
