Encourage Your Staff to Make Vision Boards

The word visionary is defined as someone who plans their future with wisdom and imagination. It’s fun to plant that seed inside of your employees. Many people live without having truly analyzed what makes them happy, what they wish they would have accomplished or what they truly want their future to look like. Enabling them to experience the mind, body, soul connection has many benefits, and having visionaries on your team is a powerful thing because what you focus on expands. If your employees are happy, they will radiate happiness!

I would suggest having a day where everyone is encouraged to work on their vision boards together. Making a board is definitely a process, so you don’t have to do it in one shot. You can separate 15 minutes for 4 days of the week for them to complete it. This method can also stimulate happiness for those four days vs. the one day, one hour approach.

What it should look like

A vision board should reflect their wants for their future. It should show different things that would make them happy if accomplished. I always setup the scenario of: “If you were 80 years old, what would you have wished your life had looked like.” Many would wish for more family time, more risks, more adventure, to have seen more places, to have met more people, to have acquired a bigger home, car, etc. Everyone’s dreams are different, and setting up a time for your team to get in tune with their wants out of life is truly empowering.

When their wants are put into existence in a visual way, the mind is much more receptive to what’s in front. It’s the Law of Attraction that states that you are more likely to work towards something you put into existence. As one of my favorite authors, Paulo Coelho, says in his book The Alchemist, “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.”

My Personal Vision Board

I personally have my vision board hanging in my room. It is positioned to where, it is the first thing that I see every morning when I wake up. It’s a powerful way to begin my day because I now have a visual reminder of why I’m working so hard, and it is a visual reminder of what I want out of life, and what will truly make me happy. The position of your vision board is crucial because, a board that you cannot see isn’t going to motivate anyone!  Encourage your employees to place them on their desks, pin it on their cubicle, or somewhere where they can actually see it, if not it will defeat the purpose of their vision board.

What it looks like:

When I made mine for the first time, I honestly thought it was going to be very difficult putting a vision board together. In a way I found it corny as well, but I found the complete opposite to be true. Once I got started, my first board wasn’t big enough for my imagination, and it completely fired me up. I had everything from mission trips to Haiti, to one of my dream homes, outdoors activities I wanted to try, people I wanted to meet, food I wanted to eat, sleeping in, the car I wanted and a couple of other things as you can see above.

Simply putting some of my dreams into existence made me happy, but seeing them every day truly made a difference. It has helped me make my days more productive. It has also helped me eliminate the distractions in my life that aren’t taking me towards my happiness and work harder to turn those dreams into memories I created. Making my board was a true source of inspiration for me, and it can be for your team as well. After all, everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, but how you spend them is what’s going to make a change.
